THE PURPOSEAn Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is intended to inform buyers or tenants about the energy performance of the building, so they can consider energy efficiency as part of their investment decisions to buy or occupy the building. Prospective purchasers and tenants are likely to pay more for a building which is energy efficient.
THE FACTS
It is only a matter of time before business rates are linked to energy efficiency, so you need to ACT NOW.
Fines for non-compliance amount to 12½% of the rateable value subject to a minimum of £500 and a maximum of £5,000.
Companies are being selective as to whom they do business with; only partners who have carbon footprints of a certain value are being considered.
TAX RELIEF AND GRANTS
Energy-efficient interest free loans from the Carbon Trust provide capital to fund energy saving projects. Carbon Trust provides independent advice on energy improvement for buildings and can advise on whether you are eligible for a grant.
Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA)
An energy technology list is available and will help you select equipment that is energy efficient. Equipment from this list qualifies for enhanced capital allowance, giving you 100% tax relief in the year of purchase.
A Commercial Energy Survey by our qualified staff will give you the information to take advantage of these Tax breaks whilst they are available.
